PSIRA grading of security guards
PSIRA grades security guards from A – E with grade E the entry-level grading for beginner security guards and grade A the highest grading for supervisory guards.
Grade: PSIRA Grade E
- Name: Skills program 1
- Entry requirement: You must have ABET level 3, which equals Grade 9 or Standard 7
- Course content: duties of a patrolman and security officer and motor guard duties Note: This is the entry-level qualification that is also done by owners, directors and managers of security companies
PSIRA Grade D
- Name: Skills program 2
- Entry requirement: Grade E
- Course content: Access and exit control (gates, doors etc) Note: Anyone who wants to be registered with PSIRA including owners, directors and managers
PSIRA Grade C
- Name: Skills program 2
- Entry requirement: Grade D
- Course content: Access and exit control (gates, doors etc) Note: Anyone who wants to be registered with PSIRA including owners, directors and managers
PSIRA Grade B
- Name: Skills program 5
- Entry requirement: Grade C Course content:
- Security first-line supervisor
- Patrol Officer
- Access Control Officer
- Asset Protection Officer skills programmes must be completed

PSIRA Grade A
- Name: Skills program 5
- Entry requirement: Grade B
- Course content:
- Security supervisor
- Patrol Officer
- Access Control Officer
- Asset Protection Officer Security first-line supervisor skills programmes must be completed
