Westerford High Entry Requirements

Pass / Progression Requirements

Grade 8 Progression: (to Grade 9)

  • Progress with age cohort
  • Generally most subjects over 30 or 40%.

Grade 9 Promotion: (to Grade 10)

  • 40% for English Home Language
  • 30% for a First Additional Language (isiXhosa or Afrikaans)
  • 40% for Mathematics
  • 40% for 4 of the remaining 6 subjects

Grade 10 to 12 Promotion:

  • 40% for English Home Language
  • 40% for 2 additional subjects
  • 30% for 3 additional subjects
  • A school-based assessment component must be submitted in the 7th subject.

Grade 10 and 11 requirements for a Bachelor’s degree pass:

  • 50% for any 4 subjects from the WCED designated list.
  • This does not include Life Orientation.

Grades 8 & 9

  • Home Language: English
  • First Additional Language: Afrikaans or isiXhosa
  • Second Additional Language: isiXhosa or French or Italian or Chinese
  • Mathematics
  • Natural Sciences:  Physical Sciences and Life Sciences (Biology)
  • Social Sciences:  History and Geography
  • Arts and Culture or Visual Art or Music or Drama
  • Economic Management Sciences
  • Technology

Grades 10, 11 & 12

Group A (4 Compulsory Subjects)
  • Home Language:English
  • First Additional Language: Afrikaans or isiXhosa
  • Mathematics or Mathematical Literacy
  • Life Orientation
Group B (Choose 3)
  • Physical Sciences
  • Life Sciences (Biology)
  • History
  • Geography

  • Music
