There are many different frameworks and models that outline the elements of security, but a commonly cited list of the five elements of security includes:
- Confidentiality: This refers to the protection of information from being accessed by unauthorized individuals or systems.
- Integrity: This refers to the protection of information from being modified or corrupted in an unauthorized manner.
- Availability: This refers to the availability of information and resources to authorized users when they need them.
- Authenticity: This refers to the ability to verify the identity of users and devices, as well as the integrity of information.
- Non-repudiation: This refers to the ability to prove that a particular action or event took place and prevent individuals from denying that they took that action.
