It typically takes about five to six years to become an occupational therapist. This includes completing a bachelor’s degree, which usually takes four years, and a master’s degree in occupational therapy, which typically takes two to three years.
After completing the educational requirements, individuals must also pass a national certification examination and meet state licensing requirements before they can practice as an occupational therapist. In addition, occupational therapists must comply with ongoing continuing education requirements to maintain their license.
