A sonographer is not a doctor. A sonographer is a healthcare professional who is trained to use specialized equipment to produce images of the inside of the body. These images, also known as sonograms or ultrasonograms, are used to diagnose and treat medical conditions. Sonographers typically work in hospitals, clinics, or private diagnostic imaging centers, and they may work closely with doctors, but they are not doctors themselves. They typically have a college degree in a related field and may be certified by a professional organization, such as the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography.
