PSIRA grading of security guards

PSIRA grades security guards from A – E with grade E the entry-level grading for beginner security guards and grade A the highest grading for supervisory guards.

Grade: PSIRA Grade E

  • Name: Skills program 1
  • Entry requirement: You must have ABET level 3, which equals Grade 9 or Standard 7
  • Course content: duties of a patrolman and security officer and motor guard duties Note: This is the entry-level qualification that is also done by owners, directors and managers of security companies

PSIRA Grade D

  • Name: Skills program 2
  • Entry requirement: Grade E
  • Course content: Access and exit control (gates, doors etc) Note: Anyone who wants to be registered with PSIRA including owners, directors and managers

PSIRA Grade C

  • Name: Skills program 2
  • Entry requirement: Grade D
  • Course content: Access and exit control (gates, doors etc) Note: Anyone who wants to be registered with PSIRA including owners, directors and managers

PSIRA Grade B

  • Name: Skills program 5
  • Entry requirement: Grade C Course content:
  • Security first-line supervisor
  • Patrol Officer
  • Access Control Officer
  • Asset Protection Officer skills programmes must be completed
  • Note: Anyone who wants to be registered with PSIRA including owners, directors and managers

PSIRA Grade A

  • Name: Skills program 5
  • Entry requirement: Grade B
  • Course content:
  • Security supervisor
  • Patrol Officer
  • Access Control Officer
  • Asset Protection Officer Security first-line supervisor skills programmes must be completed
  • Note: Anyone who wants to be registered with PSIRA including owners, directors and managers
